The Candlelight Foundation Partnership
In July of 2021, LFF and the Candlelight Foundation entered into a mutual partnership to better aid the community they served in the state of Lagos, Nigeria. The Candlelight is a non-profit soup kitchen that caters to the homeless, needy and the “working poor” within Surulere (an area in Lagos). Their mission is to improve the thinking capacity and productivity of the chronically working poor by improving the nourishment of the body. They provide a hot meal to everyone who walks through their doors. They are open three times a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) and serve over 2,500 hot meals a month. At the start of our partnership, the LFF assisted with general funds with the mutual desire to expand the program. In the fall of 2021 LFF helped to secure a new location which would also be large enough to house the newly named “Mae’s Kitchen” as well as the new Street Kids to School safe shelter for young homeless youth. This shelter provides a safe place for the boys to reside while receiving regular meals, extracurricular activities and access to a quality education.
Liberty House for Women- Lagos, Nigeria
The Liberty House for Women is a nonprofit initiative (working toward full registration) that the Liberty Family Foundation is excited to have launched in 2022. Our focus is on empowerment through various means. One of our projects is the Women’s Empowerment Initiative, which aims to support women in slums with the tools, equipment, and training needed to grow and build sustainable businesses. The Liberty House for Women was launched by hosting business skills workshops for selected women in specific areas within and around Lagos, Nigeria. These two-hour workshops cover basic skills such as saving and investing, identifying business opportunities, and attracting and retaining customers. In addition to educational content, women receive essential materials for growing their businesses, along with one-on-one follow-up meetings. We hope to expand our efforts to help young girls and to provide a safe shelter for victims of domestic abuse.
Liberty TechLift Training
The Liberty TechLift is our tech empowerment program for young adults. For this project, the LFF is partnered with two organizations—Teens Can Code and Do Good Charity Initiative (DGCI). Teens Can Code is a tech nonprofit organization responsible for tech skills training. The program will include three courses: Cybersecurity, Web Development, and Data Analytics. DGCI is responsible for the recruitment, selection process, monitoring, and evaluation. Both organizations play a crucial role in the success of our Liberty TechLift program. This initiative officially launched August 25th, 2025.
She Code Africa UNN Chapter
In August 2025 the Liberty Family Foundation became a proud sponsor of She Code Africa, UNN Chapter’s Limitless: Build, Pitch, Thrive event. She Code Africa UNN Chapter is a non-profit initiative at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, dedicated to equipping African girls and women with access to technology and digital skills. They primarily serve students, beginners, intermediates, and experienced individuals in tech—especially underrepresented female groups across campuses, secondary schools, and local communities.
This initiative is not only aligned with our organization’s mission to bridge the gender gap in tech but also supports the broader vision of promoting innovation, economic independence, and inclusion for young women. We see deep alignment between our work and the values of organizations committed to gender equity, youth empowerment, and inclusive innovation
Limitless: Build, Pitch, Thrive is a flagship event by She Code Africa, UNN Chapter, designed to foster innovation, leadership, and resilience among women in technology. This event featured pre-event training sessions, mentorship pairings, a tech build day, a structured pitch competition, and post-event support. This event targeted a few hundred attendees and aimed to empower participants with real-world skills, career visibility, and a strong sense of belonging in the tech ecosystem.
The Lagos Food Bank Initiative
In the fall of 2021 the Liberty Family Foundation partnered with the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, an NGO based in Lagos, Nigeria. The Lagos Food Bank Initiative (LFBI) is a non-profit, nutrition-focused initiative that is committed to fighting hunger, reducing food waste, and solving the problem of malnutrition through targeted programs that seek to improve the nutritional food intake of beneficiaries. Part of the LFBI programs is outreach into hard to reach communities to provide much needed shelf-stable foods and hygiene products. It became apparent that their most important need at the time was a large transportation vehicle that could safely transport their volunteers altogether to better reach these communities in need. Through fundraising efforts and a generous donation from the LFF founder Michael Liberty, the Liberty Family Foundation was able to raise $25,000 to go towards the purchase of the vehicle.
